Abstract

Taking into consideration the summer sales promotion and National Day holiday in China and the holiday sales season in Europe and the United States, notebook PC vendors previously viewed the third and fourth quarters as peak-seasons. Owing to the real estate policies implemented by the Chinese government, lackluster stock market performance, and economic downturn in Europe and the United States, it can be seen that most of the vendors began to hold conservative view toward notebook PC shipments in the second half of 2011. It was originally forecasted there would be a less than 5% sequential shipment volume growth in the Greater Chinese notebook PC industry in the third quarter of 2011. Nevertheless, sales performance in China in the third quarter of 2011 achieved approximately the same sales level as it did in 2010 over the same period of time. Moreover, vendors placed orders beforehand in anticipation of the year-end market demand in the fourth quarter of 2011, therefore, the Greater Chinese notebook PC industry recorded shipment volume, including netbook PC shipment, of around 46.9 million units in the third quarter of 2011, up 9.2% sequentially.
